This major renovation and new construction project, at
200,000 square feet, is one of the largest Mission Foods
processing centers in the US. Originally a General Motors
Plant, an innovative design and many sustainable efforts
resulted in LEED Gold level certification. Efficient energy
performance was emphasized, along with strategies to reduce
the use of potable water. A renewable energy commitment was
met with the installation of rooftop solar panels. Building
commissioning allowed for maximized mechanical system
performance.
Mission Foods partnered with Southern California Gas Company
to reduce its energy use and carbon emissions, by utilizing
the Energy Efficiency Calculated Incentive Program. Through
efficient design, this Panorama City plant saves
approximately 250,000 therms of natural gas a year. Of note,
Mission Foods has joined the Cool Planet Project, an energy
efficiency and climate change mitigation program
administered by The Climate Registry and the Southern
California Gas Company.
